It can be from childhood bullying, a car accident, verbal, physical, or sexual abuse, or other events.  These traumatic events flood the body with energy such as adrenaline.  If we are unable to integrate a traumatic event or rid ourselves of the energy, our body will store it in our nervous system, muscles, and connective tissue.  The energy can remain activated, long after the traumatic event has passed, by what we know as hypervigilance and/or a high susceptibility to triggers – noises, smells, a similar person or situation, etc.
